Acupuncture Training: Mentors for Your Guidance

This section lists prominent Acupuncturists and healthcare professionals who have agreed to offer you personal advice and guidance on the topic of choosing a source of education and building a successful practice.

Each mentor has been chosen because they excel in their practice and desire to contribute to the growth of TCM based Medicine in North America. We ask that you respect their hours of phone contact and, in return, they will give you real world advice on what it takes to build a career that is both financially and spiritually rewarding.

Please treat them as Masters: if you are clear and sincere in your questions, they will give you appropriate guidance based on their compassion for individuals interested in the Healing Arts. Each has a different perspective, so feel free to contact as many as you wish:

Matthew D. Bauer, L.Ac.
Matthew Bauer is a licensed acupuncturist who has been in private practice for more than twenty years and writes a regular column for Acupuncture Today. He is a graduate of Yuin University of TCM. He is also the author of The Healing Power of Acupressure and Acupuncture,
a book that delves deeply into the benefits of Acupuncture and Acupressure.

Cathy McNease, B.S.
Herbology-Department Chair, Clinic Co-Director Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine Cathy holds a Diplomat in Chinese Herbology from the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine,a B.S. in Biology and Pyschology from Western Michigan University and two Master Herbalist certificates from Emerson College of Herbology in Canada and East West Course in Herbology. She has co-authored two books, Tao of Nutrition and 101 Vegetarian Delights and lectures on nutrition and herbology nationally.

Brady Chin, L. Ac.
Brady Chin, L. Ac., holds a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) degree from Samra University in Los Angeles and has served in various administrative roles at several other schools of Oriental Medicine. He is a member of the academic and clinical faculty at Yo San University and has a private practice in Los Angeles. Brady also has over twenty years of experience in athletics, yoga, qigong, and the martial arts. He earned a BA from Boston University, and a Diplomate from the London International Film School. William M. Thornton, D.C.
Dr. Thornton graduated from Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS),
Whittier, California, in 1979, with both a Bachelor of Science (Human Biology) and a Doctorate
in Chiropractic Medicine.
Dr. Thornton hosts a weekly radio program, The Natural Health Report, on KTYM 1460 AM in
Los Angeles (streaming on www.ktym.com), Tuesdays from 9:00am-9:30am Pacific time.

Dr. Thornton teaches at two Los Angeles area Oriental medicine schools, Yo San University and Emperor’s College. Subjects include Western Clinical Medicine, Pathophysiology, Orthopedics, Biology, Imaging, Basic and Clinical Nutrition.
